Palliative Directory is a people-focused service here to help people with serious illness find relief. We understand that patients require the best care and comfort so that is what we strive to offer. Therefore, anytime you need to find the best palliative care services, trust us to help.
Palliative Directory is made by the team and people who created the Orthodose app for Android, iOS, and desktop. The Orthodose app was our first service with free tools, advertising, and confidentiality, aimed purely to help its users, i.e. palliative care physicians. Seeing the success of the app and how much it helped users, we became passionate about helping palliative care patients too so we created another free, ad-free, secure service called Palliative Directory with the aim to help people looking for palliative care services in their area.
Our users can easily browse through the listings and search via location or name to find the right professional service that they’re looking for. All listings provide full contact details so connecting with the service is easier than ever.
No. The basic is the English version; we do our best to show everything in English. Furthermore, each other version shows the places that speak the given language. When you use the German version, for example, you will only find services that speak German. The services and institutions set also on which language – and for which language versions – they wish their services to be listed.
Palliative Directory is a non-profit website, founded by the Cabinet Medical Le Roseau Sprl. We want to avoid aggressive commercials on our website, but we are grateful of every donation and sponsoring from institutes and individuals. Please contact us if you wish to sponsor our website!
We find that owls are wonderful birds and we like them a lot! They have extraordinary day and night vision and we would like to extend this as a metaphor to our services: if a palliative care support exists somewhere, you can trust the owl to find it.
Our directory service is completely confidential and free of charge. We are only seeking to help people. We don’t use ads nor do we collect user’s personal information or money; the only data we collect is collective user data for improving our website’s service.
We list inpatient units, hospital mobile teams, home care, day care and associations.
You can search by using the search boxes on the Home page and search by service type, exact name of institution or location. You can search by using the Near me function to search in your proximity. And you can also filter for service type by ticking the relevant box(es) next owls at the map. When choosing this option, please allow some time to the system to search, depending on your internet connection this may take a few seconds.
We use easy-to-understand image coding to indicate the type of services; each services type has a bird icon with different color related to it.
Inpatient unit is a palliative care service uniquely aimed at people who are in the last phases of an incurable disease. This service can be offered within a hospital, or in an independent institution, also referred to as “Hospice” in some countries.
The Inpatient units are indicated with the red bird icon in our directory. You can search selecting this service type from the list at Type of service, or by ticking only the box of the red owl next to the map. When choosing this option, please allow some time to the system to search, depending on your internet connection this may take a few seconds.
Hospital mobile team is a mobile team of professionals that visits patients across different hospital units. It is primarily staffed by nurses, psychologists and doctors.
The Hospital mobile teams are indicated with the blue bird icon in our directory.
Home care teams offer their services outside the hospital environment and visit patients where they live, whether this is in their private home or in a nursing home.
The Home care teams are indicated with the orange bird icon in our directory.
The day care center welcomes palliative care patients who are physically able to get out and about on their own during the day.
The day care centers are indicated by the green bird icon in our directory.
Association refers to an affiliation of health care professionals and volunteers who administer palliative care.
The associations are indicated by the grey bird icon in our directory.
A cluster marker – a circle – appears when care services are close to each other on a map. The number on a cluster indicates how many markers it contains. When you zoom into any of the cluster locations, the number on the cluster decreases until you see the individual markers on the map. Zooming out of the map consolidates the markers into clusters again. The color code of a marker cluster does not indicate the type of palliative care service, it depends on the number of items it contains..
Below the map, under the Legend that explain the meaning of the owls with different colors, you find the Near me button. When you click on it, the system shows you the available care units in your proximity. The Near me function is symbolized by the compass inside the search box, by clicking on it, you can activate or deactivate it. When the compass is blue, it means it active. Note please, that depending on your browser settings, you might have to allow to track your current location, the related question will appear separately in a small window.
It is probably because you have activated Near me earlier. Just unselect xNear me from the search results by clicking on the X. Or go back to the Home page and type another location to the search field on the right.
Just click on the map to zoom in, then click on the bird sign to have the name and contact details of the service. You can also use the ADDRESS, CITY, COUNTRY search box at the top of the Home page. Just start typing the name of the country or city, and then select from the appearing list.
In case the location does not appear in the list under the box, just type it in and click on Search.
This is the most effective search, we advise to use this one.
We list services worldwide. You can refine your search by filtering on country, the nearest town, or the type of service requested.
To search by name you have to use the search field on the top of the Home page, in the middle. Because the name search only works with exact matches, it is advised to use search by location combined with filters by service type in order to have a quicker result.
